Recent discoveries show that
the YoYo reappeared in Egypt around 2,000bc during the “Middle Kingdom 12th
Dynasty”. During this time King Nebhepetre Mentuhotp II reunites
upper and lower Egypt,
establishing a renewal in arts and entertainment. Also the far reaches of
the Egyptian empire reached the outskirts of the Babylonian empire. No
evidence has been found linking the YoYo to the Babylonian empire, however
it is well believed among archeologist that this is were the reintroduction
of the yoyo appeared. Ancient Egyptians YoYo’s (Egyptians referred to them
as Knupoyo) lavish in artistic qualities. Typically during this period they
were constructed using stones with gold leafs designs. During this time the Knupoyo (YoYo) was more popular among the slave population. Although they
were forbidden to YoYo or Knupoyo they would secretly construct wooden
Knupoyo to imitate the powerful Pharaohs. Ironically this ultimately played
a role in the downfall of the mighty Egyptian civilization.
Cleopatra of Egypt around 47bc embarked on a voyage to Rome with Julius
Caesar. With her she brought the wonder of the Knuhopyo. Upon arrival of
Rome, Julius took such a liking of ancient trinket that he had commissioned
the Knupoyo delegate. The delegate was responsible for the introduction to
the native populous. It was believed by Caesar that this would bring
meaningless joy to Rome’s enemies within there walls as well as outside
Rome’s reach. Before the delegate organized Caesar was murdered by the
senate under the pretence of treason. But before this would happen the
influence of Rome spread the Knupoyo to the far reaches of Europe.
